All the small guest houses on the island, Sanapur, Hanumanalli and Jungli village have been actually demolished. Only the big places on Hampi island remain and they paid huge amounts of money for the stay order. The result is huge price increases for rooms about double compared to last year. It's a big case in the highest court in Delhi and because the people who run those bigger places have the extra money (probably much more than in Hampi itself) they have spent a huge amount on lawyers fees 'etc' It's been going on for years so the result will have to come soon. Most people seem to think it will all have to be demolished as obviously it's bad for the area to actually have guest houses and shops for the visitors?! Ridiculous and UNESCO should be exposed and held to account for allowing Hampi to be trashed as oppose to preserving it. Locals have gathered together and are trying to protect their homes and small businesses. Guest houses, shops and restaurants are battling for survival again as the Government plans a 'Model Heritage Village'. They should leave the real village aloneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-479316854816894162.post-76857331019801058802017-08-29T23:16:08.265-07:002017-08-29T23:16:08.265-07:00Nice post. I believe the heritage of Hampi isn't just in the temples, but also in the village homes and the lives of local people. So, the state govt. should protect that and respect that. Everything you wrote is true, thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight.
A girl from Hamburg, who was in Hampi this winter, wrote to me asking for my views on the state of Hampi. I shall work out directly how to send her a link.
Dhillan told me you were doing well up to the time you left India.
Hope that you are still well.
Nick R.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
